Ministry of Social Development Clearly Contacts Pilot Program
On February 6, 2013 the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) announced that the B.C. Government is making changes to ensure people receiving income and disability assistance will be able to purchase their eyeglasses online from Clearly Contacts without being out of pocket. This 6-month pilot program began March 1, 2013 and will end around August 31, 2013 (MSD has not confirmed the end date). The Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) and other industry stakeholders are deeply concerned that the MSD pilot program is putting a socio-economically challenged and high-risk group of patients at undue risk of harm to their vision health
It is important to talk to your local MLA before the end of June 2013 to ensure timely action can be conducted to suspend the MSD Clearly Contacts pilot program. The time to take action is now. The more your MLA sees you, the more this issue will be heard and understood. The fact of the matter is that most MLAs probably do not know about the MSD Clearly Contacts pilot program. We need to ensure that our local representatives in government are aware of the MSD Clearly Contacts pilot program issues and support safe vision care.
